“TB and HIV are one in the same disease” - such is the case in South Africa, where co-infection with both diseases is high.  Drug resistant TB is a major problem and leading priority in four of the country’s provinces . This lecture highlights some of the novel approaches in care and infection control that the health ministry is taking to address a tremendous disease burden.

1.It a wonderful initiative by you to treat MDR TB,however what initiatives have they taken to reduce emergence of drug resistance in the first place?have they improved adherence or prevented dropout reated so that MDR TB does not develop in such large no.
2. how many patients were treated with Bedaquiline and for how long?
3.Why are patients who are diagnosed early not getting treated?
4.what measures have you taken to prevent spread of MDRTB if you are giving community based treatment

MDR TB in SA is an important issue and this presentation has highlighted the use of Genexpert for early diagnosis and newer anti TB drug trials especially Bedaqueline which has shown promising results under research conditions. Due to the increasing numbers of XDRTB there is a need to make sure DOTS strategy is rigorously followed with proper patient counselling for treatment completion. Research on newer drugs is necessary. The issue of contacts of MDRTB especially children needs to be addressed seriously regarding chemoprophylaxis.

it was really interesting to understand the mechanism of action of Bedaquiline and the role of ATP synthase.
