Most global and country estimates of the drug-resistent TB likely underestimate the burden in children.  Approximately one million children per year may be exposed to MDR-TB.  This lecture examines the epidemiology and treatment outcomes of MDR-TB in children in a high burden setting in South Africa, and also questions what drug regimens may be best suited for children based on new evidence.

a very good study and presentation
1.what are the endpoints in your study?
2,why do you think that cure rates of MDR-TB is better in children than adults?
3.is there any way in which hospital stay duration of 5 mths in mdrtb children can be reduced?
4.can we think about reducing the perminant deafness in children by early detection of toxicity before permenant damage is done?
5.what screening algorythm did you use to detect MDR-tb in children in your study?

1. Why is it necessary to keep children in hospital for 5 months. Cant they be treated in community better under supervision?  In India the stay varies on an average around one to one and half months and then under RNTCP the TB HV and local doctor administers the MDRTB treatment in consultation with the Consultant telephonically.

1. Is BERA ( brain stem evoked potential ) used to screen children to assess hearing problems in children on MDRTB treatment?  and if so how often?
